I sold this about a year ago to a friend.
I got rid of it because I couldn’t get the digital dash to work properly. Nobody could find any faults in the wiring, and a new cluster gave the same issue. To top that off, while sitting in it after installing the second cluster, it developed a stumble in idle. It would clear up after a few minutes of near undriveability but would come back upon a cold restart. I was done with the car at that point.
A short time later I’m $800 richer, but a Caprice poorer.
The friend had purchased it as a first car for his son. First status update I get is the stumble disappeared on the trip home and hadn’t come back. The cluster still was intermittent at best.
Fast forward to this week:
Agrajag: How’s the Caprice doing?
Friend: We just had the master cylinder replaced because that failed, and the exhaust taken care of.
A: What happened with the exhaust?
F: Passenger side muffler fell off, but we had both sides done.
A: You ever get the instrument cluster figured out?
F: (laughs) It just started working on its own.
A:(noticeably distraught) That’s great.
So both issues that made me decide to get rid of the car sorted themselves out. Fanf——-gtastic.

I miss this type of car.

Sorry :(
Grass is always greener. Alternate-reality-you kept the Caprice and it probably developed serious unprovoked problems shortly after. He’s wishing he had sold it. Can’t win!

There was quite the pollen attack that week.

On the plus side you didn’t have to deal with the brakes going out or the exhaust falling off.
I had a ‘96 Fleetwood back in 2004 that had some weird electrical problems, including randomly deciding to not start, then working again after a random amount of time. I ended up selling the car for $1000 and a chevy V8. The guy who bought it off me told me he finally tracked down the cause to the circuit board in one of the computers being cracked in half . If it go jarred just right the circuits would separate and not work, then if it got jarred again they would line up again and start working.

As a B-body aficianado, you have my condolences.

I absolutely love Caprices, especially the 91/92 with the fender skirts which yours might be, if its not a ‘93. I’d probably never be able to sell it again.

Mine was a ‘94 9C1 sans skirts. I do love those though.
